It's important to know about standard of living so you can what it's like where other people live and understand their situation. Also, it's good to understand your own standard of living. If you know you're living in a more developed country, you should realize that. You should realize that you don't need to get all the tv’s and fancy stuff to live. You should realize that there are other people in the world not living as nice as you. You don't want to be greedy and take everything all for yourself. There's other people who need that stuff and could use it.

The 5 themes of geography can be used in connection with standard of living. Place talks about what it's like a location. If you live somewhere very developed with factories, good farm land, water access etc. then you would be more likely to have a high standard of living. If you live somewhere that's very dry, hot or cold, and not good for growing and producing food and other goods, then you would most likely have a low standard of living. Movement also plays a big role. If there is a lot of movement of goods then there would be lots of trade which can help raise the country's GDP and GDP per capita and the countries standard of living. If there's little movement of goods the country would have little trade. Human environment interactions play a big part as well. If people properly use the environment, then they can get lots out of it. But if they don't use it properly and live in a bad environment the standard of living could drop. People also have to learn to change and adapt to the environment. If they can't learn to change or adapt then they will struggle to meet basic needs and struggle with their standard of living.

5 themes of geography

Analyzing the world with the five themes of geography helps to under connections between people and earth.
Fist of there's location. Location is where something is. Absolute location used coordinates to find the exact spot. People use this to find exactly where something if they are traveling or moving. If they want to go to an exact airport like the Madrid airport when traveling to Madrid they would need to know to go to 40°"N 3°"W. People USA relative location to find out how far they are f4om a place. For example, to get from mount Denali to Mount Stand for you would need to know the miles apart to get the distance. They are about 230 miles apart so driving at 65 miles per hour it would take about 3 hrs and 32 min.
Second, there is place. Place is about what the area is like in a location with physical and human features. One example using physical features is that if you are going on vacation to the Bahamas and you live in Alaska you will need some different clothes than you do normally because the Bahamas is a lot warmer than Alaska. An example with human features is that if you're going to another country you most likely will have to learn the language there in order to communicate.
The 3rd theme is movement. There's 3 main types of movement, people, goods, and ideas. People can use movement of people to analyze the world and connections between people and the world by looking at culters and ethnicity. People traveled across oceans and different people immigrate to new places. That's how we have Irish, Mexican, Swedish, African etc in America. Movement of goods helps because we can get food from other places like Florida and get fruits that don't grow here. We need movement of ideas for the fact that we can know when people in war are coming to attack us, or when someone is going to invade our country.
4th there is Human-environment interactions. People interact with their environment by changing it, using it, and adapting to it. People in hot climates adapt to the environment by wearing correct clothing like shorts and t-shirts People change their environment by cutting down trees to build farmland and the not doing anything with the trees. People use the environment by taking the sap in ample trees and making maple syrup for food.
Final, y there is region. You need to use region to annualize the world because if you're in the english speaking region then most people speak english in that region. Or if you're in a rainy climate region then it will be rainy most of the time.
In the end people analyze. the world with the five themes of geography helps to under connections between people and earth.

For me the theme that's hardest to understand is region. When looking at maps that show different regions i get confused by what's a region and what's a country. But mostly i'm not confused on anything.

Map skill reflection

Click here for the link to my project

Something I find easy about basic map skills is a compass rose and key. The compass rose is simple and easy because have learned it already and I've known how to do it for a while now. I also use the acronym never eat soggy waffles to remember which direction is which. The key is easy because it's pretty simple and self explanatory. Something that I struggle with is longitude and latitude. It's confusing for me because sometimes it's hard to estimate what point it's at if the range between 2 lines is long, like 0-70. Basic map skills are necessary because in life you may not always have your phone or have internet to use google maps to find a place to go, so you might have to use a paper map to get somewhere. WIthout basic map skills you can't find spots on a map. You can't read maps. You can't use a paper map at all to find points. If you didn't know basic map skills and don't have access to an online map, you won't be able to anywhere.
